Robert J. Paulsen has been named president of PBS&J, the primary subsidiary company of the PBSJ Corp. in Tampa. He succeeds Todd J. Kenner, who resigned from the company effective August 22, 2008.
Paulsen is also chairman of PBS&J and vice chairman and secretary of the PBSJ Corp.’s board of directors. He has been a director of the corporation since 2000. He joined PBS&J in 1986 and has been an officer of that company since 1993. Prior to his recent assignment, Paulsen served as the chief operating officer of PBS&J and as PBS&J’s national director of transportation services.
Also, Wayne J. Overman was named chief operating officer for PBS&J. Overman joined the company in 1997. Since that time, he has led the growth of PBS&J’s aviation practice. Last year, he also served as deputy service director for PBS&J’s transportation business line.
Michael M. Newton has joined PBS&J as director of human resources. Newton most recently served as vice president of North America for one of Saint-Gobain Corp.’s building materials division. Newton succeeds Judith A. Squillante, who, after 28 years of service, has begun a transition to a new role as senior vice president, corporate programs.
Jeanne A. Yacoub fills a new position as director of PBS&J’s Project/Program Management Office in Atlanta. In this capacity, she will help to further develop project management as a core competency of PBS&J. She joins PBS&J after 13 years with Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure.
John M. Finochiaro has joined PBS&J in Tampa as chief technology officer. He has 20 years of professional experience.
Also, the PBSJ Corp., parent company of PBS&J, PBS&J Constructors and PBS&J International, hired Benjamin P. Butterfield as new general counsel to its corporate staff.
Briggs Construction Equipment in Charlotte, N.C., promoted John Van to president on Aug. 1, 2008. Van joined Briggs in 2000 and had served as region manager and vice president/chief operating officer since then. He is a 31-year veteran of the construction equipment industry. He will be based in the corporate headquarters in Charlotte.
Also, Tom Mitchell was appointed vice president and chief operating officer. Previously, Mitchell served as vice president of corporate services for Sammons Corp.
Southern Industrial Constructors/Southern Crane of Columbia, S.C., an industrial contractor, named Richard Stichter as crane manager and project manager.
In this role, Stichter oversees the branch’s six cranes by coordinating their maintenance and operations, managing operators and interacting with clients. He has more than 30 years of experience providing crane rental and heavy equipment and industrial construction services.
Sidney R. Florey was named vice president, business development for Hubbard Construction Co. of Orlando, a subsidiary of The Hubbard Group. He will lead Hubbard’s initiatives concerning private-sector projects, design-build, public-private partnerships and similar business ventures.
Alan Danaher was named senior supervising engineer in the Orlando office of Parsons Brinckerhoff. He will assist in expanding PB’s presence in the bus rapid transit and streetcar markets in North America and internationally. Danaher has more than 34 years of experience managing transit projects.
The Mid Florida Utilities & Transportation Contractors Association presented its annual scholarships recently.
The 2008 recipient of the $6,000 Richard E. Moreland Memorial Scholarship was Taylor S. Pride. Pride graduated from Lake Mary High School and is attending Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville.
The recipient of a $1,500 scholarship was Vaasha Shanni Lutchman. She is attending the University of Southern California.
The recipient of a $500 scholarship was McKenzie Ann Parker. Parker is attending Valencia Community College.
The Underground Utility Contractors of Florida announced the 2008 recipients of its annual scholarship program. Yang Ge won a $7,500 scholarship. Ge will be attending Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., where he is studying engineering, economics and goverrnment.
A second scholarship for $7,500 was awarded to Mark "Tommy" McCabe. McCabe is attending Bucknell University.
Also, Benjamin Thomas Hurst won a $3,500 scholarship. He plans on attending Tallahassee Community College and Florida State University.
Avery Lauren Spofford also won a $3,500 scholarship. Spofford is attending Vanderbilt University.
Amber Lynn Danielecki received a $2,500 scholarship. She plans on attending the University of Florida.
Steven J. Sanchez also received a $2,500 scholarship. He is attending the University of Miami.
Brian Matthew Dunbar, William C. Frandsen and McKenzie Ann Parker each won $2,000 scholarships. Dunbar plans on attending Mississippi State University. Frandsen plans on attending Flagler College. Parker has been attending Valencia Community College.
Keith McGuinn was named senior vice president and director of sales and marketing of Alpharetta, Ga.-based MACTEC Engineering and Consulting. McGuinn is responsible for managing, directing and coordinating companywide sales and marketing functions. He has 21 years of experience and has been with MACTEC since 1999.
Scott J. Anderson was named South division manager at MACTEC Engineering and Consulting. The South division currently has more than 1,300 employees, 28 offices and accounts for over $170 million in annual revenue for MACTEC.
Anderson is based in Charlotte and most recently served as Charlotte office manager and area manager for South Carolina
Richard P. Whalen was named Orlando office manager at MACTEC Engineering and Consulting. Whalen has more than 25 years experience in water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and utilities engineering.
Zyscovich Architects of Miami promoted Susan Dimond and Alyssa Kriplen to associates of the firm.
As director of marketing and business development, Dimond is responsible for the firm’s marketing activities. She joined Zyscovich in 2006.
As project manager for the Zyscovich Design Department, Kriplen is responsible for the design and approval of some of the firm’s commercial, retail, hospitality and residential projects. She also joined Zyscovich in 2006.
Atlanta-based architect Newcomb & Boyd announced that Jyotsna Bhamidipati has joined the firm as an electrical engineer. Bhamidipati holds a bachelor’s degree from Auckland University of Technology and recently received a master’s degree from the Pennsylvania State University.
Also, Sinan Sinharoy has joined the firm as co-op. He is a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, where he is studying mechanical engineering.
Nina R. Guevara was named service repair coordinator in Sutter Roofing Co.'s Fort Myers, Fla., branch. She joined Sutter from Bolognese Construction Service of Bonita Springs, where she was assistant project manager, project coordinator and administrative assistant.
Skanska USA Building has hired Jay Weisberger as field communications manager. He will oversee communications work in Florida, the Carolinas, Rockville, Md., Blue Bell, Pa. and Connecticut.
Weisberger comes to Skanska after three years with The Catevo Group, an integrated marketing communications agency headquartered in North Carolina.
Dennis Dills has joined MAI Architecture Engineering Construction of Melbourne, Fla., as vice president of architectural services. Dills will be responsible for overseeing all architectural activities, along with supervision of junior staff.
He has 35 years of industry experience.
Glazing Consultants International in West Palm Beach, Fla., hired William Lovsey as manager of its new Roof Asset Management division.
Lovsey has more than 20 years of industry experience.
Paige Wojtowicz and Rachel Elliot have joined the marketing department of Suffolk Construction in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Wojtowicz will work as a proposal specialist, while Elliot is a marketing assistant.
David Nichols has joined the Winter Park, Fla., office of Miller Legg, a multi-disciplinary consulting services firm, as a senior engineer. He will serve as a senior project manager for land development, transportation and stormwater/environmental projects.
Sue Cline was elected president of the Myrtle Beach, S.C., Chapter of the National Association of Women In Construction.
